Pico Iyer: The art of stillness

The place that travel writer Pico Iyer would most like to go?

Nowhere.

In a counterintuitive and lyrical meditation, Iyer takes a look at the incredible insight that comes with taking time for stillness.

In our world of constant movement and distraction, he teases out strategies we all can use to take back a few minutes out of every day, or a few days out of every season.

It’s the talk for anyone who feels overwhelmed by the demands for our world.

Wanderers – a short film by Erik Wernquist

Wanderers is a vision of humanity’s expansion into the Solar System, based on scientific ideas and concepts of what our future in space might look like, if it ever happens.

The locations depicted in the film are digital recreations of actual places in the Solar System, built from real photos and map data where available.

Without any apparent story, other than what you may fill in by yourself, the idea with the film is primarily to show a glimpse of the fantastic and beautiful nature that surrounds us on our neighboring worlds – and above all, how it might appear to us if we were there.

Iceland

from Ugmonk

“Iceland is magical! There’s no other way to describe it.

My wife and I recently took a trip to Iceland and explored some incredible spots along the southern coast and around Reykjavik.

I put together a little video to recap some of our trip, but nothing compares to experiencing it in person.”

Shot on my Olympus EM-10 and 12-40 f2.8 lens. (A couple shots on iPhone 5s)
Song: “Stay Alive” – José Gonzalez

(I’ll be posting photos from our trip on my blog soon: ugmonk.com/blog)
